Kodu Game Lab. 3D Visual programming

Home / Modules / Kodu Game Lab. 3D Visual programming

Kodu is a new visual programming language made specifically for creating games. It is designed to be accessible for children and enjoyable for anyone. The visual nature of the language allows for rapid design iteration using only an Xbox game controller for input (mouse/keyboard input is also supported). Kodu is used to teach creativity, problem solving, storytelling, as well as visual programming.

Kodu is a way to move children from a passive role as a player to a more creative role as a game creator. This is what Kodu allows you to do — to show that a computer can be used to create something new, to bring your ideas to life. The platform helps children to create games on a PC using a simple visual programming language. Kodu can be used for teaching creativity, storytelling, and programming.

• Module duration – 1,5 months
• Age - from 7 y.o

Even preschoolers can learn visual programming for children using the simple and popular Kodu language invented by Microsoft Corporation. With KIBERone CyberSchool, a young gamer will learn the basics of creating 3D games and interactive stories, expand their creative potential, try themselves as a developer and will probably want to move from a passive role of a player to a more creative and exciting process of developing three-dimensional projects for Xbox and personal computers. To create game worlds, embed characters with emotions and their interaction with each other according to the set rules, the child does not have to write texts and draw flowcharts with codes – the control is performed by the commands included in the program collection.

Features of studying programming using Kodu Game Lab platform

The duration of Kodu Game Lab module in CyberSchool for children is 1.5 months, classes are held once a week. During this time, your son or daughter will get acquainted with the basics of visual and object-oriented programming using the "live constructor" and the unique Kodu language, discover the amazing world of modern computer technologies and understand the logic of programming without complex syntax.

During the classes, children will:

  • learn to think with algorithms, develop spatial and strategic thinking;
  • use logic to visually plan their future project;
  • learn the basics of 3D modeling for children by creating game objects and worlds;
  • learn the basics of programming using the Kodu language, get familiar with the interface, settings, principles and rules;
  • work under the guidance of an experienced mentor, solve various complex tasks, including moving and connecting objects;
  • conduct in-depth analysis of problems that arise in the course of study;
  • develop social skills, adapt faster in an unfamiliar team, learn to work in a group;
  • interact with their peers during the breaks between sessions.

Let your children become more successful than their peers. Give them the freedom to create, give them the opportunity to get involved in developing three-dimensional games for PC or Xbox with their own characters and rules that they want to share with friends.
